Social-Media Content: Relatable, Aspirational and Unattainable

I wanted to share some thoughts on the types of content I find valuable on social media. 

While relatable content is important, I also believe in the power of “aspirational” and even “unattainable” content.

Relatable content offers comfort and a sense of normalcy, showing us that we're not alone in our struggles or goals. It can be incredibly motivating to see others facing similar challenges and succeeding. 

However, if relatable content is all we consume, it might indicate a fear of seeing others' successes. Celebrating others' achievements and recognizing the possibilities they represent can be a powerful source of joy and inspiration.

Aspirational content, to me, is a driving force. Watching people work hard and achieve their dreams, regardless of whether those dreams align with my own, pushes me to pursue my own goals. 

For example, seeing a former client publish a fiction book encouraged me to start writing my own. It's essential to see what's possible so we can continuously reach for our own potential.

Finally, I'm perfectly fine with encountering unattainable content. I don't need to have what everyone else has, nor do I want it all. I respect that people strive for great things and earn them but don’t let that affect my own well-being or happiness.

A woman who can squat 400 lb.? I'll never do that, but I sure love to see others who can!

My Goal

As a coach, my goal is to educate and inspire, never to make anyone feel inadequate. I try to show relatable stuff as well as some extraordinary things. 

For example, I want everyone to know they can work out and get stronger. Fitness is for everyone!

But I also want to show off some rare stuff—like a woman who can shoulder press 125 lb. Very few people will ever be able to do that, and I showcase that client’s accomplishment because it’s amazing. And she earned it with a lot of hard work.

If you view that feat of strength anything else that might be beyond you right now, I’ll challenge you with this: What great things could you accomplish if you really dug in and did the work?

While I can't control how someone interprets my content, I hope to always find a balance between relatable posts and aspirational posts. 

Relatable content helps you get comfortable, and aspirational stuff shows you what’s possible.

I want you to feel like “fitness is for me” when you look at my stuff.

And then I want you to imagine the amazing things you can accomplish when you start working on your own health and fitness.
