No, I Won’t Act My Age

Have you ever held back from doing something you truly wanted to because you felt you were "too old"?

Perhaps you've heard stuff like "don't wear that. It's not age appropriate!" or "it's too late to start a new career. You're older now!"

These sentiments are far more common than you might think.

Fortunately, I believe we're entering a new era when it comes to aging, one where people are actively redefining what it means to "get older." And I am absolutely here for it!

This past year, I've truly embraced being "vintage," and I love it.

I care less about what others think and more about my own thoughts and feelings. I'm not afraid to try new things, but I'm also more practical about how I spend my time and who I spend it with. Boundaries are much easier for me to set now, and most days, I feel a quiet confidence I never had, even in my 30s.

I'm not acting my age, and I'm genuinely loving it.

Bikinis and Booty Shorts

I'm in my 40s, and I still want to rock a two-piece bathing suit—the cheekier the better!

When I look at swimwear these days, it's not about what's trendy; it's about what feels and looks best on my body. I don't worry about the size at all or forcing myself into a certain number. It simply has to make me feel great, period.

I also enjoy working out in short shorts. While I'll admit they used to be even shorter, by many standards, I still wear short shorts, and I don't care.

I've found my perfect pair by focusing on specific measurements. The waistband hits my short torso in just the right spot, and the inseam cuts my thick thighs perfectly. I feel amazing when I wear them and don't worry about how they look. I don't think you can ask for a better scenario when you're training as hard as you can.

Challenges and Learning

I love trying new things and constantly challenging myself.

In the last few years, I've learned to ski, shoot firearms, drive a boat and walk on my hands. I've even started writing a fiction novel!

I refuse to waste time on things or people who aren't right for me. Pleasing everyone else instead of yourself is a drain on your life force. It took me until my 40s to truly be OK with some people not liking me. But, as they say, "We're not here for everyone."

Rather than let age tell me what I can't do, I'm deciding for myself.

You Decide!

Recently, I had the opportunity to attend a fitness competition featuring CrossFit athletes between the ages of 35 and 70+. It was incredible to witness their fitness, vitality and overall zest for life.

Strong men and women were pushing their bodies and minds to the absolute limit, with style! I watched hundreds of athletes redefine what it means to get "old," and it was truly inspiring.

On the other hand, I've also observed people I know choosing a much different and, frankly, heartbreaking path for themselves as they age.

If you have the choice, walk your own path. Do things that keep you feeling healthy, energized and young in spirit.

My plan is to be doing muscle-ups until I'm 80 if I can, and if I still want to rock that bikini, you better believe I will.

If you'd like to buck the trend and age on your terms, fitness and nutrition can help. I'd love to talk with you about your goals. To connect, send me a text, email or DM on social!
